Why I Never Auditioned for American Idol, The Voice, or X-Factor

Every now and again I am asked if I ever thought about auditioning for American Idol, The Voice, the X-Factor, or any other televised talent competition. For those who know me, I love the stage, and love to entertain, so it would seem like a logical step in one's music career right?

The truth is, I've had no desire to "compete" to win a career. This seems odd for someone who played three-sports in high school, and loved "proving" himself on the field of play. For me, music is different. Yes, I want to share my talent with the world, but on terms that I define.

I feel that the hard work, time, and effort that I put into my music career will help me reach the level of success that I define for myself. This is not to take anything away from those who have competed, and developed great followings, and careers off of being on these shows, but there was a long period of time where that was "expected" of an artist. That if you really had what it takes to become successful, you would audition. You'll come to find out in the next few weeks, I like going against the grain a bit. I like to do the opposite of what is expected.
